The only difference between ordinary and extraordinary is just that little "extra".

Did a user interview today

Coach Willis is a life coach, and he talks about the fundamental topics of finding your meaning in life, and finding fulfillment in the work itself. He's going to be a great help.

I have 7 user interviews/test scheduled

Wow, I'm getting busy! This is awesome. Let's see what kind of insights come out of these conversations :)

Scheduled four more user interviews

I had an itch to try and connect with more leads, and I'm glad I scratched it. They're mostly Indiehacker & Ship 30for30 folks, but they all have in interest in goal setting.

Scheduled my first user test for Wednesday!

Ric is back for more. Going to run through the onboarding and general acquaintance to the product, and hopefully gather ongoing feedback from him.

Read the first chapter of Outcomes over Output

It all seems like commonsense once you understand how it all fits together. I'm glad I'm only 27 and learning to manage outcomes instead of pouring all my energy into output. I want to work smarter, not harder, and I don't want to just be busy for the sake of it. I want to push work forward to see results, not just because it looks cool to do so.

Completed my first user interview with Ric Barnes

Ric is a really cool guy, and around my age. He took me through his Notion at first, and then we got into how intertwined his personal goals are with his work, finally ending with his videography hobby.

For a first interview, it wasn't bad. I didn't have as much structure to it as I would have liked, and my nerves got to me in some parts. But, I got Ric to open up pretty well about his own process, and I think it was a good trial run.

I hope to continue to improve my interviewing skills. Recording the call is helpful, which lets me focus on the conversation. But, I think I need to get a little more precise in what exactly I want to discuss. Didn't talk much gamification or growth mindset per se, but he did give me some immediate inspiration.

Now, I need to validate these findings by seeing if other users share processes and ideas about goal setting.

Booked my first user tester for this Monday

This will be the first person I get to observe use the product that isn't F&F. We have some beta users that are strangers, but don't see a whole lot of activity yet, and we need to configure a good feedback loop with them.

Probably going to use a build email service to make branded correspondence.

Made a goal about the kinds of goals people have in r/polls

This is my first crack at a Reddit poll. I'll continue to refine the process. I wonder how many subreddits allow polls, and how rich the data can be. I'll need to find other channels, and only use this data to supplement qualitative claims.

Got my first user interview scheduled for Saturday

Ric is from the UK. Pretty cool. It would be nice to speak to more people overseas from different countries.

We're probably gonna talk mostly Notion and how goals fit into personal productivity, and the growth mindset.

Congrats, keep us posted!

Followed up with some potential users

I'm trying to frontload my user research. I want as many interviews as I can get, and enough user tests to keep it clean of major usability issues.

I followed up with 4 people today from our official email address.

Got a couple of user leads

Outreach on IH and Reddit seems to be paying some dividends. Now, to follow-up and talk to these people.

Followed up on a lead form the F5bot

Keeping it organic, and only dropping a hint. I may start doing this on our branded Reddit, but I wanted to try it on my personal first.

Updated the backlog with some initial job stories

From what I know of people, we all have realizations that come to us in our efforts to learn something. And we get to apply these if we want. Sometimes they're just for fun, a way to do something in a new cool way, or maybe they'e very gainful insights that help us unlock more potential.

Next, we all run into issues or make mistakes, and solving this is always incredibly necessary to move forward. Though, this is a point of friction, an obvious pain point and if we allow ourselves to we will stop right there, unmotivated and uninterested.

One represents a positive and the other a negative, yet learning from both are necessary for success, would you say? I want to unlock these features in Strively.

Rigged a Reddit lead generator using F5bot

It's following up on keywords relevant to goal tracking. Accountability partners seem to be a hot one as well. I am trying to keep everything organic, and hopefully help as much as possible. If a user openly asks for a product or service, I can recommend Strively.

Wrote our About page

Went with a letter from the founder. Felt the most authentic, and Strively is basically a community where authenticity is rewarded.

Vetted places to launch on to recruit early user testers

Settled on Betapage and Betabound for right now. Betalist looks great as well. We may pay to be featured on there. And, UserBob seems as though it could have some decent quality user tests available for cheap. Free and organic is always best, but to get as much research as possible right now would be good. User interviews are still necessary as well. Though, interviewing actual customers would be best.

I need some more user interviews for Strively

I want to hear people discuss some key topics surrounding goal tracking such as:
1. How necessary and influential feedback is to them, and the general idea of being public about their personal goals.
2. What happens when they make mistakes or run into problems
3. What makes them feel rewarded, and how to maximize that to encourage progress.
