How, where, and for how much should I sell a website template?

Hi,

I have made my personal website (not completely finished yet, but viewable at https://bruceroettgers.me) and am now thinking of maybe selling the code of the website on Gumroad?

  • What is your feedback on the website?
  • What do you think would be a good price for the template?
  • On which marketplaces should I offer the template?
  • How should I promote the template?

Please Note: Yes, the website is unresponsive, I will fix that before really going live. Please do comment on any other issues you encounter.

Thank you, Bruce.

hmm, templates are difficult if they are not high-end templates. but pricing is generally always difficult … no matter if for a bannane, car or software 😆

you might want to ask yourself the following questions too:

  • how much time did you need for this template?
  • how much time would someone else need?
  • how much time would someone else saves if they use your template?
  • how strong is the competition?

then it all depends on your goal setting:

  • do you want to make money with it? (so, I mean, not just by the way like a small pocket money)
  • or extend your visibility?

Some Marketplaces

I have also seen templates on ebay 😂 theme forest is by far the best. I have already bought templates from it.

my opinion

because it is bootstrap, i don't think you can ask much for it. the competition is extremely big.

I spend about 3 hours developing it.

I think I could really charge non-tech people more money for it. They dont know about (and dont care about) Bootstrap.

My pricing ideas was something around $10 for the template and maybe $50 or so for setting it up service (e.g. letting people send me files and I'll set everything up for them)

@bcye well look at themeforest, that your competition: https://themeforest.net/category/site-templates

maybe $50 or so for setting it up service

that's service, depending on what you do, you can ask more. I'd set hourly rates here, though.
