Where do you share your projects, especially to the non-maker world?

So after promoting my app to Twitter and Reddit I've seen that there was actually a huge increase in traffic and downloads.

So now I want to take things to the next level. Where do you usually share your projects (especially to the non-maker world to gain exposure and new customers?

As a side-question: How much traffic do you usually get to your personal site? Do you do something to increase traffic?

If you need a starting point for promtion ideas, I have put together a list that collects links for this topic: https://github.com/dehenne/awesome-visibility

if you want to know my personal opinion or procedure. We once placed advertisements in newspapers and magazines. this only works if you know your target group 100% and the magazine addresses them as well.

google adwords, facebook and twitter is a lot easier and more target-oriented. otherwise there is a lot of stuff on my list. i wanted to add newsletter to the list, too. that also brings a lot.
