What's your favorite earphone/headphone (links appreciated)?

I have been buying cheap ones but so far in 1 month I have wasted all 3 of them 😂so want to buy a good one now

I have a few but all of them are Sennheiser, what about these?

Devine PRO 4000 over-ear headphones for recording.

Apple AirPods for casual listening, although those recent articles about radiofrequency radiation and what not made me go back to using EarPods more regularly now.

My first big headphone pair purchase/investment: ATH M50x-BT

Love them so far.

Wow, those are nice but a bit pricey. I am worried I'll ruin them early so won't buy too pricey ones 😂

Depends on how high you want to go. Sennheiser ie80 are a remarkable pair: high quality sound, impressive bass and even more impressive of a soundstage, given they are in-ear. I have mine for 5 years now, soon 6, and I absolutely love them.

Sony WH-1000XM3 are the best pair I've ever had. The noise cancellation is top notch and lets you focus like a pro. Sometimes I don't use them for music and just use it to cut out the distractions around me and focus.

They are also super comfortable for wearing all day and the battery life lasts for ages as well.

Looking into buying these bad boys in a few weeks, I'm glad someone else has the same intentions as me when it comes to just cutting out sound. Sometimes I hate noise so these are probably going to boost my productivity by a LOT.

  • Are there any negatives about them at all?
  • What's the life time from 100% to 0%?
  • Can you charge them while using them?

@tomaswoksepp Sorry for the slow reply! Glad to hear that you're going to invest in these! I had the Bose over ear headphones before these and although they are great, the Sony are on another level.

  • I honestly can't think of any negatives. I guess the price is the only one but they're worth it.
  • Life time is somewhere around 1-2 full days of work. It is hard to tell exactly because I never use them the whole day but i'd say two average work days with a full charge. I tend to keep them topped up by charging them from my laptop over lunch and rarely need to charge them more than that.
  • Unfortunately you can't charge them while using. I think you found the one negative!

Let me know what you think of them when you get them? :D

@jjmu15 Just received them 10 minutes ago and I'm mind blown. I'm not used to this sound quality, going from using my mobiles ear plugs 😂 Charging and using them didn't work as you said, but the charge time is honestly crazy… so it doesn't matter at all!

I still hear a little bit of sound leaking through while using the noise cancelling, is there any settings to this or do you just activate it and that's it? 🤔

@tomaswoksepp there are 3 modes. Sound cancelling, ambient and nothing. Press the modes button to cycle through. Ambient mode lets sounds in through the speakers. The more you move the more it lets in. E.g. for bike riding etc.

If you're already on noise cancelling it doesn't block out 100%. Irregular or super loud noises will get through. But every day background noise like conversations, wind, cars etc should be totally blocked.

Glad you like them anyway! :D

@jjmu15 I'm having the washing machine running in the other room, it's raining down on a plastic ceiling right outside and my sink is dripping. I can hear the dripping slightly, the rest is completely blocked.

I think this is the best investment I could've possibly done for myself!!

I am usually strictly a Bose over-ear headphone guy. But my most recent pair stopped working, so I decided to buy some Airpods. I know some aren't on the Apple train but they are honestly an awesome product. Probably my favorite thing I've purchased in a long time. The sound quality is pretty great, wireless/bluetooth works perfectly and they are really well designed.

For music production (and listening), can't go wrong with Beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO. Always priced around $150. 80ohm if you're doing more casual listening, 250ohm if you're doing any recording or hi-fi mixing. DT 990 PRO are great if you want an open (as opposed to closed) version.
