Which self-help book gave you the most?
Hi Makers,
I would like to ask, which self-help/motivational book gave you the best advice or push to actually start doing something?
Would be happy for any recommendations :)
Thank you. Take care :)
only one? … there is not one book, or one advice. 🤔
@efran So there are some books that keep helping me. (in no specific order)
Biographies:
- Steve Jobs
- Books from Schwarzenegger - Biographie and Total Recall
Books:
- Lean Startup
- Zero to One
- Rich Dad Poor Dad
- The Humans
- The 4 hour workweek
and I love to hear Simon Sinek (so if you want some advice, listen to him!) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPmfPl-BsCd3wmE8i45LAoA
The Humans is an exception on this list. It is not a scientific book or a book that passes on knowledge. But it changes the view of the world. Just the end.
I revisited these two every year or so!
Let's take a look at my Kindle…
Currently reading "The Charisma Myth".
The book that helped me the most this past year was Deep Work by Carl Newport. His advice to take a weekend off to go through your last year, think about what you like and didn't like and then use that to plan your next year really worked well for me.
A good advice for most self-help books is not only read them, but also try the advices for real. I noticed that I read a lot of books but didn't practice the advices, and then they're of little use to read.
When it comes to self-help, I prefer videos to books. The reason is quite obvious: books need to reach a certain amount of pages to be sold, usually 250 to 300. Have you ever seen a 30 pages book? The problem is that a lot of them can be summarized in 30 pages.
I suggest to you David Goggins, Jocko Willink, Jordan Peterson, the MFCEO Project (a podcast), the Tim Ferris Show (another podcast) for step-by-step practical advice.
Not sure how long Make Book by Pieter Levels but he started charging before he had started it, haha
ahahah, I could be on to something. In my opinion, a 30-page book is even more valuable because it saves me time, so people should be willing to pay more. I tried blinkist but I don't like their summaries, they lose too much valuable content. Unfortunately, purchasing decisions are usually irrational :(
If you want some title, I found very inspiring "The power of now" and "Your erroneous zones". The audiobook of "Can't hurt me" is the best I've "read".
I'm a big fan of those type of books. So I try to read them a lot. Not all of them were good, yet I try to rate them accordingly in my Goodreads account, feel free to take a look - https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/80549857-edvins-antonovs
