What would you like to see in Makerlog?
Hi makers! This is your friendly Makerlogger-in-chief checking in.
As I write the roadmap for Makerlog, I'm looking to listen in to what the community would like to see us focus on the next following months.
This can be anything from fixing a pesky bug to anything extremely long term.
Do let us know and don't hold anything back! I'm excited to hear your ideas.
Here are a few points that came to mind spontaneously:
- The possibility to change the default view by clicking on Tasks in the menu (like list as default view, as option in the settings)
- Basically the overview of the tasks, for example that always all tasks are displayed (as an option in the settings)
- Bugs in own colors with gold, for example the button for the tasks in dark mode. Also other elements in your own color.
- Statistics for your own tags that you can filter. Including the required time from creation to completion of the task. With this you can also make good statistics to check your productivity. Whether you process Taks quickly or not.
- An option in the settings that prevents you from being shared in social networks (I personally don't like that when I'm in the spotlight).
- Under Products add a possibility to store tasks for your (example) blog. Currently everything is listed as a product. But that shouldn't be the case. There should be categories for it, or at least an option saying that it is not a product, but your own blog or other thing.
- The possibility to show advertisements when paying for gold (as an option in the settings), so you can support Makerlog even more
- Checking the streak with one click instead of activating weekly mode, removing tasks, etc. (see here)
- A link to the possible Markdown formats (as modal or some else)
- Profile views (maybe for gold users)
- New added: Changelogs for own products, so we don't have to use external tools (tags that act as version numbers and are colored somehow)
Hi, Kevin. About this:
Bugs in own colors with gold, for example the button for the tasks in dark mode. Also other elements in your own color.
Couldn't find a bug with the button on dark mode with custom color activated. Can you please give me more details?
Or you mean you want the button to change color from green to your custom color? (along with other elements that remain the default green)
Hey, I haven't fully evaluated what you guys currently offer but I have a suggestion if you aren't already moving in this direction. My project is all about community building and I have a goal of radical transparency. If I can integrate this kind of service with a Patreon account or consume the information on my own service so my users can interact with it as well… that would be great for me. Anything that shows my users progress and commitment is critical for early applications. Cheers -Nicholas
I think another useful feature is allowing the user to see who he is following and who he follows.
For example, I can see how much people follow me but I can't see how many I follow (I mean, the counter in my User profile)
- make the Rest Days in the top right of /log clickable, took me a while to work out how to turn them on
- invite a friend
- integrate with producthunt? for tasks 🤔 - debatable
How would the PH Goals integration work?
Not too keen considering they're direct competition, but open to ideas. 😂
@gray This could be interesting. I'll be thinking about it.
Thanks for the ideas!
Each of the makers who log task on makerlog, Every 5-10 mins the makerlogbot will push one of their post on the Makerlog Telegram in the feeds. So we can view it on telegram and get inspired too. Automated news feed on telegram. Not too spammy, same concept like the newsletter we got at email weekly. But i love it to be daily and real time because i will be checking my phone now and then This also will give an impact & growth to the community.
I'm thinking this may be a little spammy, maybe just instead do a daily recap at 0:00 UTC?
@sergio You can always put something like that in the gold, as an option. If someone wants this without gold, he can solve it himself with the API.
So you can add an option where the user can decide whether to use this feature or not. You can also add an option that determines the interval: 1x per day, 1x every hour, 1x every week.
Then select whether by telegram, or by email.
I think this can be done with many wishes of the community and you put more and more into the gold package and maybe earn some money and motivation :D
Here are some of the few Ideas I have for Makerlog.
- Teams Works likes Products Example of this is @FajarSiddiq RamadanMakers Product/Group
- More Apps to Integrate to Makerlog's Workflow and Your own, Like Makerlog for Atom, and Other Apps.
- Makerlog Streams ( 1 maker gets to stream 2 or 1 time weekly on it for everyone to see)
- More Makerlog Tools, I would love to see more stuff like Task Timing,Products and More.
- Makerlog Hackathons and Events.
:), @sergio
Much has already been suggested. One thing that hasn't been mentioned: to be able to follow products.
Edit:
One other thing! Currently, makers are able to add products, which is great of course, but when I look at the activity log, the 'product' feature tends to get abused for personal stuff as well, like someone has a product called his/her own name, or something like their personal website, life stuff, etc.
It would be great if you could keep the product feature for actual products, and free from personal projects, by adding a 'project' or 'personal project' feature.
This would also have a positive effect on avoiding streak abuse, by actually separating product activity, personal project activity, and misc activity.
One thing I'd like to see is improvements to products, some ideas:
- To access/edit products my I currently need to go into the Tasks dropdown menu. When I first visited this here I expected to see a list of everyone's products rather than editing functionality of my own. A products directory would be great — I'd love to browse one. It would be worthy of its own header nav item.
- Also include product add/edit functionality within the You section. That's where I would expect it to be.
- Suggest creating a product as an action on your blank slate dashboard just after signup
- I think it could be clearer how hashtags for your products work. When you're adding a hashtag it doesn't explain what they are for. A bit of guidance here will help new users to start tagging their products.
Hope this helps, keep up the awesome work!
I second the bit about the hashtags. I have quite a few tags that I created, when I started, before I realized their purpose.
I imagine this will be covered in the new onboarding wizard.
Great ideas guys! Can't think of a specific idea but I would love to see new features that will drive more interaction between community members here in Makerlog. For example, something brilliant like (praise) button. Maybe voting on a weekly poll suggested by the community. Encourage all community members to praise other new community members daily (Maybe new area to suggest to current user to praise this user). I think this will help community members get motivated and will spend more time on the site.
One more thing, I make-to-learn. So, I think if there will be a way to write the main purpose of the product that I'm working on. Maybe my goals when I start this product (what do I want to achieve). But maybe we have to keep it short and straightforward in one or two words. Maybe the goals will be like tags. So, we can explore the most common goals of other members and browse products that share the same goal.
Thank you Sergio for this amazing website. And thanks to all community members for making this community succeed.
First off, maybe I'm doing it wrong or not the intended way, but here goes my attempt to explain.
- Issue?: When adding a "to do" or "in progress" it automatically assumes that "today" is the day I am getting it done. If I don't get it done today, it's still attached to that date. When I complete that task three days later, it doesn't count for that day, it counts for the day that was three days ago.
- Part way there?: I love the addition of the deadline and I really like the way you implemented it. I like being able to just type in "6 months from now"
- Compromise?: I'd love to be able to schedule tasks for different days. At the end of each day, I like to make a list of things I need to do tomorrow. It would be great to just add them directly to Makerlog and have them waiting for me in the morning.
PS. What do you use for road mapping?
Oh - tasks completed on a day internally count for that day's streak, so losing it is probably a bug I need to address.
@vicki The final idea on having a "tomorrow" board is cool. Added to roadmap.
Another suggestion! On the homepage, sometimes people have like a 15-20 tasks logged so it takes up half the screen!
It'd be cool if there's a max height, or a limited number of tasks displayed, say 3-4 per person. Then show a display more button to expand the person's card thing to show the full 15-20
@erikgriffin imo it makes sense to just have it as the most recent, same as it is now. It's a nice thought though - what you're saying kindof reminds me of pinned repositories on github..maybe you can pin a task you're super proud of
Yes I have issues with integrating Trello. When you unpair it from your Maker account it still says "Settings". Clicking on Settings goes into a loading loop and nothing ever shows. I wanted to disconnect it from one Trello account and reconnect to another. I can't do that.
This sounds more like a support issue than a feature you'd like to see implemented on Makerlog. For support please add an issue at https://pm.mattei.dev/issues
