What's your biggest hurdle as a maker?

We all have things holding us back. What's yours?

Getting traffic / attention. It's fairly "easy" to build stuff, problem is it's hard to get the eyeballs to your site in it's early days. The other thing is just lack of time, have to juggle paid work with side projects and keep both alive to survive financially.

Getting distracted and working on dumb stuff. Every new idea sounds fun and exciting to work on. Continuing the last project sounds hard and arduous.

Sometimes I even can logically tell myself that an idea is not worth investing time into but I still sometimes find myself dumping time into those ideas, only to kind regret it later on.

As a solo maker, the largest hurdle I have is wearing so many hats. Between development, marketing, sales and dealing with clients while also having a full-time job things get tricky. I also struggle with accountability, but I think makerlog helps me dramatically with this!

Marketing. As a maker, I love the making aspect but not good with marketing and selling.

I would agree to this. I've been working on this lately and have definitely realized I need to take the marketing aspect a lot more seriously.

I need to make my sales, my bills and debts is pilling up. Everything else is fine.

Time.

there's plenty of time. but prioritizing it sucks. I would like to spend more time with my family, but then there is no time to concentrate 100% on the project / product / company. Besides, my apartment isn't finished yet. and there are just many things that quickly distract from the important things.

Agree 💯Time is the most painful part. For me also difficult with prioritizing. And the most difficult is to work after a full-time workday.

Time and project continuity. The more I spend time on a project with no revenue, the more I lose interest. Happens 100% of the time. Fortunately (or unfortunately?), I have a full-time job to survive financially.

Motivation.

This to me covers so many different topics: I'm not motivated enough to focus on one project, I'm not motivated enough to continue learning the things I need to, I'm not motivated enough to keep on the "social media grind" & post about what I'm working on.

I don't know how to keep my motivation, and how to strengthen my work-ethic, but once I find the secret key I promise I'll share it for free :^)
