Can leadership be a crucial factor for your company’s improvement?

Open to read opinions about it.

There's a saying in germany. "Der Fisch stinkt vom Kopf" … The fish stinks from the head. That means, if the leadership is wrong, everything is wrong. The cause of crises or problems often lies with persons or institutions that are at the top of the power hierarchy. :-)

So back to your question, yes, leadership is the only factor to improve a company.

  • If the head of a company does not do his job, why should his employees do it?
  • If the head of a company demands a certain characteristic from his employees, but does not implement it by himself, why should his employees do it?

Ideas and improvements can come from anybody, but if the leadership is against it, It becomes rarly a thing. Employees are more likely to leave.

Strong leadership often creates a staff that is passionate about the mission.

Fully agreed.

I agree with Henning, its probably critical in fact to have good leadership.

Leadership doesn't necessarily only mean the CEO of course, but what makes good leadership? Is it the person or is it the processes that have been put in place? Does following a well designed process reduce the need for good leadership?

Processes and person, but especially good founders and executives. The goodness rains down.

yes, definitely. that includes anyone with a managerial position. starts with the small project leader. but the higher the ladder goes, the more weight it has.

If the CEO sucks -> it's a bad picture for the company -> bad picture affects the condition of the employees -> atmosphere in the company at its lowest point -> back to the CEO -> CEO sucks :D

but what makes good leadership? Is it the person or is it the processes that have been put in place? Does following a well designed process reduce the need for good leadership?

good question. i think, first come the people. It's the people who make it happen. it's the human itself. the guy to the right of you. but anyone can follow a process, of course and thats the reason why things should be defined.

if, for example, the goal of the company is clearly defined and told to everyone, then everyone have the same goal in mind and if, everyone sees that the leaders also sacrifice their energy to achieve it … it is like a virus.

but in the opposite case as well. therefore define processes, start with the goal … and implement it by yourself!

Of course! Leadership is often the defining factor on whether your company is on a path to improvement.

Great leaders have the ability to inspire. They create a collective vision that can be grasped by the workforce.

Contrarily, Poor leadership permeates throughout the office. Why would any employee want to work for someone who they don’t believe in?

Additionally, leadership is often directly connected to productivity. Those who are able to provide direction are also the ones who create solutions.

In metaphorical terms, leadership is making a choice between two paths: one that leads towards success, and the other that leads away from it.

As for some advice on good practices, here are some examples of what the best leaders do:

Be collaborative. understanding and working well with others is key. Be decisive. Being able to stand firm with your decisions creates clear and concise direction. Praise quality work. Colleagues respond well to positive feedback, and will work towards replicating this behavior. Don’t micromanage. Let the experts do their work without too much disruption. Implement vision. A clear path towards a goal is useful for everyone. There are a mountain of examples that could be listed, but these are some of the most critical.

Anyone looking for additional advice on how to be a persuasive leader should watch our workshop with Tyler Odean, Group Product Manager at google . He lays on some fantastic insights on how persuasion and leadership can change the course of a business.

Thanks for the great replays! Hopefully some of the advice can be put into action.
