Stack & traffic during Product Hunt launch

Guys & gals who launched their products on Product Hunt:

  • What was the amount of traffic that flooded your website (average and peak)?
  • What stack were you running?
  • What were your server specs? (eg. AWS EC2 small, DigitalOcean 1cpu, 2gb ram, etc.)

Thank you for your help and all the answers 🙂

Was literally just thinking about this last night. I know it depends on the platform and technology, but was starting to wonder what I need to do to be prepare for that!

Was at least thinking I would put Cloudflare in front of it, which would help with the static landing pages in theory.

we hat currently two launches

  • NameScore
  • Namefruits

and the next launch is coming

NameScore (http://namescore.io/)

I screwed up at namescore and accidentally launched too early. by being in a different time zone and having 9 hours difference to PH I accidentally launched an hour too early. This slipped to the previous day. but we had ~500 unique visits through PH alone.

Namefruits (http://namefruits.com/)

That worked really well. problem was rather that we didn't discuss it internally and then suddenly had some stress. the start was not completely planned on that day. :D

but somehow we made it as Product of the Day. we had ~2500 unique visits through PH alone.

on both services we run a similar stack

  • root server (no aws cloud or smth similar)

  • php, mysql, nodejs, apache + nginx (as caching)

i'm preparing for my vacation so i dont realy know what the specs of the servers are. I can hand it back in a few weeks when i am back.

Steemit Holmes

Oh, I still had steemit holmes as launch with another company. that was not a success, but it was also the wrong target group. so all is fine. :-)

I've done four launches by now. For all of them ProductHunt was the main traffic driver. But quite different numbers.

The very first one for my social username checker had in total around 10k traffic (with following tweets by ProductHunt up to one year after).

The second one, for "Which Login did I use last time?", drove around 1.6k visits from ProductHunt and ten sales, but I can't say for sure where the people found it. Three sales go for sure back to IndieHackers (found out in chats with the users).

The third one was purely a fun project and we didn't even add any tracking, so 🤔️. Last but not least, SEO Tool Extension had around 2k but dropped off very quick. As it's free uninstalled were high and some people were rather unfriendly.
