Over the weekend I took a small break from everything and built a search engine for XKCD comics.
Mostly for fun, XKCD has a few thousand comics and sort of an API and I wanted a reason to use Algolia search for something.
It originally spanned from wanting to build a search engine for digital comic creators, see DinosandComics 🐱🐉 or Nathan Pyle's Strange Planet. 👾
I used Tails (tailwind builder) and Vue to mock up a quick search engine design. Then went to work scraping XKCD comics from their JSON urls, before uploading them all an Algolia Index. Finally finished by hooking up the search input to a netlify function and Algolia's search API.
I tweeted about this a few times throughout the weekend but didn't get much traction. However, once I posted the finished version on the r/XKCD subreddit it kinda blew up throughout the day.

I didn't expect it to be as successful of a launch as it was, but I'm happy people are using it and giving feedback on how to improve it.
