Made it to Uppsala!

A burst tyre on the motorway caused a minor hiccup on an otherwise smooth journey. Next job - find somewhere to live...

Travelled from Åhus to Västervik

Spent an amazing 10 days RnR in the southern Swedish seaside town of Åhus, bouldering and hanging out at the beach. Could have stayed longer but we want a few days in Västervik before heading to our final destination.

Remote working begins!

So we have made it to Sweden and started our big trip!

After a hectic month of prep and an epic 3 day journey across Europe - lots of driving, covid tests and ferries, we have made it.

We are kicking off with a few weeks RnR by the beach in Ahus in the south of Sweden and making our way north slowly to our final destination in Uppsala.

Pack up 2 rooms

Epic sorting and packing - deciding what stays and what goes for a year-long trip for a family of four is not easy!

Paint bedroom

That's the last of the big DIY jobs on the house. Next up sorting out what to take and what to leave...

Get bedroom ready for painting

Filled holes in the walls and moved all the furniture. Painting starts tomorrow...

Cut the hedge

If I didn't do this before we leave for our big trip, it would take over the whole garden by the time we got home!

Fixed leaky roof gutter

A bolt that was holding cast iron gutters together had snapped and was causing a leak. Not a big problem in summer but by October this could be an issue. I replaced the bolt and sealed with putty.

Painted kitchen and fitted splashback for cooker

That's the kitchen finished. Still a few jobs to do before the place is in rentable condition...

Fixed wobbly kitchen cupboard

Half way through kitchen refurb now, once it's done there are a few more things to sort before the place is in a condition suitable to rent a room.

Replace kitchen sink and mended the work surface

Planning on working remotely for a while and part of the prep is getting the house in good condition to rent a room.

Set up automated backups of new laptop

I used Duplicati for this - great open source option which is as good as any backup software I've seen and pretty user friendly too. Backing up to S3 so that does have a cost but it's small.

One step closer to remote working :)

Day off - went to the beach with my kids :)

Nice!

Ordered a new kitchen sink and fittings

This may seem a bit random to include on Makerlog but fixing up the kitchen in our house is a vital step to getting organised for remote working.
