affiliate marketing is cutthroat if you don't go with the 90% market leader you are gonna have a hard time generating income to be honest you are really setting the odds against you - what do you have against Amazon? I had a Firefox extension with over 100,000 users and generated several million worth of sales for them (they name of the extension was SiteLauncher - now discontinued for Firefox - but a Chrome version is now available at donesmart.com - alas Amazon terminated my contract but I've had good success with other affiliate programs in particular booking.com - I signed up for CJ and explored other smaller affiliate programs that where alternatives in some products to Amazon and the sales where abysmal that tought me to go with the market leader - the only good affiliate program you might consider which i probably should have menioned earlier is the second hand book market on ebay - ebay's affiliate program is very good and close to amazons in conversion rates - good luck with your project
