What do you guys do to de-stress?
I'm having a stressful day and looking for ways to calm down other than going for a walk, which is not working lmao.
Personally, I play a game that does not need too much thought, personal favorite is StormWorks, I literally drive a boat and just listen to music!
@keoir Kinda reminds me of how people play Euro truck simulator and chill. I used to do that with No Mans Sky, but sometimes those games just suck me of my productivity.
@bryceroars 100% true, sometimes it is hard to go back to work! The way I handle it is to play and then just do something else once I find myself in the pit of gaming lol. For example, I will go outside for a bit, and then I am out of the feeling of wanting to just play.
Another thing I find helpful is every 2 months to use a weekend as a reset. Go somewhere new, does not have to cost a lot, and unplug and just reset. Recently me and my wife went to a small town in Texas and it was huge for energy to keep working!
Hi Bruce, lately, I tried some 5-minutes guided meditations to take a break, and it really worked with me! I'm not very disciplined usually and in order to calm down I used tricks like playing Animal Crossing, taking a hot shower or listening to rock music and stuff. But honestly, meditating is worth the try!
@LucieBaratte I find it a bit easier with games with a defined start and finish like FIFA. Assassins Creed is a rabbit hole for me.
@baadier I think that's the key, the defined stop and start. Much like a walk you know when you're "home" if you do it that way.
I usually walk for an hour whilst listening to a podcast, that helps a lot. Or I'll switch off with some games or a movie on Netflix.
Pomodoro is something I never believed in until I tried. Now I never start working without my timer. I'm using PomoDone for that.
@uluhonolulu same! I use tomatotimer chrome extension for it. As someone with a very ADHD brain it helps me so much. https://imgur.com/a/8w8G4RB <- check that out
As already mentioned, meditation would be really helpful! It is proven to help relieve stress, but I suggest that you try to practice it on a daily basis. You can think of it as a lifelong habit, just like exercise.
I go running and I listen to music, sometimes podcasts. My mind would sometimes go back to work but I can generally switch off like this
Share what is stressing you with someone close. Talking about it definately helps and you'll probably find a solution to whatever problem you're facing.
If you just want to clear your mind, run/walk in the forest always help me ⛰
@uf4no I actually had a conversation with my dad, went on a walk and took breaks while working on the problem. Honestly this is one of the most underrated things suggested. I rarely do that, and yesterday it made the difference and I came out better than if I wouldnt have chatted with him for sure.
For me going outside for a long walk always works this best! Meditation also works great, but when I am stressed I have a really hard time to start it so I usually just go for a walk and maybe meditate afterward :)
@davidjoech If you ever see me on twitter, you know im part of #WALKGANG. ;)
I go rock climbing, train for rock climbing or do yoga. If I don't do a couple of hours exercise every day my back hurts and I cant sit at my desk!
@uluhonolulu there are a few venues close by for bouldering and climbing, there's also a couple of climbing gyms but they are closed for lockdown :( so I train on a hangboard or campus board at home
Get outside. The sunshine usually has me feeling better in a few minutes. A good walk also helps me clear through the chaos that is my mind.
