How do you avoid getting swamped with too many projects?
Hi all!
I'm currently running a few projects in parallel. Even though some of them progress nicely, with other I feel like I'm getting swamped due to not giving them enough focus.
Additionally, I have new ideas almost daily and have to work very hard not to start anything new.
How are you coping with the urge to build new things, when your current things are not yet finished (and you have deadlines)?
Essentialism is the answer: do less, but better. Pour energy into what really matters and let ideas slide.
Strategize before you start. Analyze risks and tradeoffs before taking in new projects.
Highly suggest reading the book Essentialism. It's on our Makerlog team book list and it's fantastic for learning to prioritize and de-overwhelm yourself.
The hardest part of any project is when you get to the last 20-30% of completing it. At least for me, that's when it hits me that perhaps I want to work on something else.
I believe this is why it's important to pick a product that you're "passionate" to work on. Not that passion will help you succeed on its own, but that you'll follow through and complete the project.
@doomhammer This is the story of my life. 90% of time I stop at 80% of project completion and switch to new idea.
I would recommend focusing on your feelings. Just do what makes you feel joy. Hope it helps!
Great advice but not always feasible as yet. Sometimes I say "yes" to opportunities that later look less shiny than they used to.
@doomhammer Say no to most things so you can focus on the things that matter. It works!
@doomhammer how are you managing all these ideas, accounts, domains, etc?
I have the same problem, I start so many things.
