Weird UTM Sources

Anybody else get weird traffic that uses UTM sources like mbub.dbz or tbbtyf.dbz? I've googled them, but get no results. What gives?

I think whoever is doing this is trying to get you to visit those sites. It’s a marketing tactic, probably.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks. I wish they stop. I don't want to waste fullstory sessions on them.

@helengriffinjr Yeah it's not super annoying, but unnecessary. I prefer cold emails because at least it gives me a chance to know what they're building and perhaps why I should take a look.

@geetfun yeah, gonna take @marian2js advice and filter out the nonsense. There's more important problems I need to solve anyways.

I've had strange hostnames taking up my CNAME DNS, not sure if related but interesting nonetheless.

How did they do that?

@helengriffinjr You can set a domain to point to any CNAME hostname you want, and they did that.

I had a similar problem with different domains, I just filter them out, most analytics tools allow this.

Yeah, I might do that and filter them out. They're taking too much of my cognitive space anyways when I'm reviewing my reports.

I've got a lot of visits from "android app" but it doesn't say which. Anyone having the same?

Nah, all desktop traffic for me. Maybe use Semrush to check for any weird backlinks.
