Could face to face SMB like hairdressers, plumbers pivot and sell online?

Obviously with all the news about about the virus that does have a name all non-essential businesses are shut down in the US and around the world.

I am hopeful that it is only temporary but the damage has probably been done to a lot of small businesses who rely on monetizing their skill and knowledge.

Could a hairdresser start booking time with clients online and guide them with personal attention on how to style hair?

What about a dentist or a chiropractor? While the hairdresser seems doable, any bad haircuts would be fixed over time. But a dentist or chiropractor the potential negative seems high. But maybe they don't have to sell all of their services, maybe it could only be partial like exams.

I'm sure there are other examples. Most of us are probably software developers but maybe you know of some body that fits the bill above and has started pivoting to sell online that you could share stories of?

Thanks John

I don't know where you live, but dentist and chiropractor are doctors here. In germany the medical field must and may continue to be practised. as well as food supply and everything connected with it.

but i see it in the inner city that some businesses have already given up. so not just passing for two or 4 weeks. they closed completly and sell there stuff. especially shops that need public circulation, as mentioned above the hairdressers, will have a hard time.

there are more, eq

  • small ice cream seller (sales season would start now)
  • all who work on the construction site (houses and similar cannot be sent by parcel service)

But meanwhile we are asked more and more often how to do live streaming. For example from a midwife. And I have heard from some yoga trainers that they now offer live online courses. That was also there before, but it increased extremely.

People are inventive, but many will also be left behind.

As long as the internet runs … I am happy to be a software developer

I would convince these businesses to pre-sell their services.

I would pay early for a 10% discount on my future haircuts from my current stylist. I don't see myself changing hairdressers anytime soon.

100% yes, This is the direction it should be going in. Do it yourself sales from home, the next smart businesses won't be VR they'll be like Zoom.

Did you see this business pop up last week?
