What are you building this month? [May 2020]
This is the monthly thread to share your progress and explain the projects you're building!
Share links, ideas, feedback. GO!
Personally am doing backlinking for http://passportlist.co
@micahiverson following! Great question. I use HARO and Source Bottle for backlinks @koya.
We are working on a single-page website builder called Dorik ( https://dorik.io ).
My friend and I started it as a side project. After months of work, we have launched our beta homepage 2 weeks ago to get early testers. And we have got a very good response so far.
This month, we are working on some important features and preparing the website builder for the launch. Also, We have planned to add 2 more templates and some UI components to our library this month.
@poppacalyps thank you. It's a corrupted version of the word Doric (One of the three orders of ancient Greek architecture). 😃
I'm sorry that you are finding it hard to read. We didn't think about that. :-(
The homepage screencast is fantastic. I will signup and try out over the weekend, please keep sharing updates.
The pages look amazing. Seems like I would switch from carrd to yours. Would like to know what integrations you've planned. What email services the subscription form support?
Hello people, hope everyone is fine and in good health :)
Link: https://particle.systems
I am working on Particle Systems. It is a component library specifically designed to capture user inputs like email, feedback, bug reports, feature requests etc. on static websites. These components are supercharged with integrations so that the captured data is directly saved into your cloud services like Airtable, GSheets, Mailchimp, Trello etc. No need to write backend code. No need to migrate data from DB to external services.
The beta version should have been ready by now but since last month I am working on it alone. Hopefully will be done in the next few weeks!
Thanks for reading, I am eager to know your thoughts and suggestions.
It's been awhile since I last visited the site. I notice you've made a lot of changes in terms of language and color scheme!
It's a vast improvement - simply because a layperson like me understands exactly what it's about, and how it can benefit me. Great work Tuhin!
@poppacalypse Thanks for the kind words, means a lot! :) I talked to couple of people in the target audience to figure out the language that my target audience uses and how to make it more inclusive. I will certainly write about this insight-driven landing page re-design in a blog soon!
Looks mature, how long have you been on this? I am sure I remember seeing the site on this site or elsewhere. The idea is solid and given the rise in static sites, the market is clear. Please keep sharing updates!
@brainless Thanks for the encouraging words :)
Yes you are right, I posted this on multiple websites to validate the idea, position the product, refine the copy etc. I launched the first landing page in February, refreshed it in early March but things slowed down due to the pandemic lockdown since I had to shift focus elsewhere. The development pace picked up by the end of April and I am expecting to launch the beta this month. The beta launch is late by almost 1.5 months but it taught me to plan better for the future :)
Let's see how it goes. Sure! I'll be posting here.
Hi
Good idea and really unique positioning of idea for Static website.
Just notice once small things why your particles "KONTAC, GEC" have so unique name any specific reasons make them difficult to understand for end-user
Good luck
I am working on SEO Product Optimize (SPO) and AffTable.
For SPO, it's a Shopify app to boost store exposures. SEO is a well-understood category in ecommerce. But the app helps store owners to optimize on-page seo with an easy-to-follow instructions.
For AffTable, it's a collection of affiliate programs related to SaaS. If you're a content creator like blogger, influencer, podcaster, YouTuber, etc, you can monetize your web traffic with various affiliate links.
You should fix your SSL certificate for SEO Product Optimize. Firefox gives straight out a warning when you try to access your URL. You may wanna install and use let's encrypt. It's setup with certbot is pretty straight forward as long you can edit your DNS entries.
@bennyychan hi I receive the same warning with Safari & Co. It seems it loads a SSL certificate for mybiodiary.com and not your seo url. And on the other side your project mybiodiary doesn't load a SSL certificate at all. So probably just a server config error.
@poppacalypse thanks! I am writing a long post to share my experience in making a business listing. Stay tuned!
I'm building PrivJs(https://privjs.com) - A platform that enables developers to sell npm packages.
The MVP is live. But still a lot of efforts are yet to be put in.
Do you know an Indie business that needs help with starting a podcast?
I'm building a podcasting solution for people who want to attract customers and build their brand.
Already have a working prototype :) This month I'm developing the podcast analytics component.
Only one main thing for May! I launched a new project, Cove, a few days ago, so it's now time to start marketing. I also have a long list of things to build on the platform.
Otherwise I need to keep writing on the Cove blog and my blog about remote/online work, Make & Graft.
@_kieranmg Yes, they can easily just remove badly-behaving members and hide their comments. But the idea is that having this all built on top of the members feature should keep quality high. And don't forget, this is for free members as well, not just paying members.
14 months in working on Appliku.com Deploying Python and Django projects on Digital Ocean.
Had so much valuable feedback recently, that it kept me busy big time.
Looking for more early users! Coupons for lifetime 50% discount for everyone who creates an app until the end of May! (Right now fully free)
Hello everyone! 👋
At Knock, we're building a new way to collaborate with your remote teammates 👨💻👩💻✨
We're currently finishing our MVP. It will be ready in few days 🔥
We plan to open it progressively to our waiting list. So it will be a very exciting month! 🙌
What started as a side project with a friend in response to the Covid-19 sanitary crisis 1 month ago is becoming a real product and it's amazing! I'm very happy to share this journey with you guys.
We're always looking for beta users, so if you feel it could provide you some value, you're free to join our early access waiting list through our website.
I've started working on a no-code tool to accept payments for your digital products and quickly automate everything around it.
After you sign up you can add a product. Each product can have some properties like color, size, or whatever you need, and then gets a unique (configurable) link, via this link your customers can easily pay for the product or service online.
And of course, you can also link Zapier so that you can make your own automations on top of our software without knowing how to code!
This I like. How does it fare compared to Paddle, how does it compete? Also with gumroad.
I'm building a commenting system for the JAMstack! Currently working on the core functionality, using FaunaDB, Firebase and Gatsby!
After 4 months of hard work, eventually, we've launched https://app.makezu.io in early access this week.
FYI: Makezu targets potential customers when they express a need on Twitter, and send personalized message in real time.
Now, we are working on a feature to custom metatags for each Tweet sent on the behalf of our users account.
I'm working on an early access website for Tracknack, a music discovery app: https://tracknack.com
This is the first web dev project where I'm doing design, illustrations, and coding all by myself! I'll keep adding new sections this month. Next on the list is the 'How it works' section.
Continuing to build form2chat.io - Instantly get notified of form submissions to the messenger of your choice 🗯
Working on MeetFriends.app - reminders to keep in touch with your friends and family.
I’m redoing the landing page to make it easier to understand and fix some communication issues.
I plan to do some minor product updates and then get back into talking with people to get qualitative feedback.
That sounds useful. Seems like a good time to launch it, with all the social distancing. I put in my email to get the Android app when it's ready.
I'm working on my newsletter Spark Edition (https://sparkedition.com/), I send it out every 2 weeks, but need to work on getting it in more inboxes! Looking at posting on Medium.
It wasn't immediately clear to me what the site was about, who is it for etc. even after scrolling through a few blog posts. Generally ppl skim read and you only have a few seconds to capture ppl's attention. If they can't figure out what you're about within that very short span, they'll leave.
IMHO I think the entire "Start Here" section could be on the front / landing page.
I like the Pot Luck Silly Button :)
@poppacalypse Hiya, thanks for the feedback. I went through a couple of versions of the site, as it's basically a newsletter online. I wanted all the links to be evergreen so you browse the site a later date and everything is still relevant. I see what you mean though, it does go straight into the latest newsletter. Maybe I will have a play around!
@rutheastelow it's just my 2 cents; you know your users best so go with what works for you! :)
Working on a fast, easy-to-use time tracking app with consumer-oriented design.
https://hocus.app
I finally finished my first project (arcade-hub.com). I'm quite happy how it went, it's very niche but the feedback is very good and I even got in touch with a few Apple Arcade games developers and got feedback and unexpected cases from them. I still maintain it but most of the time I'm gonna put on the second one.
I want to build a learning community. It actually spreads the ideas of Makerlog but for education. I want to build a platform for learning in public because I believe it's very effective and 100DaysOfCode proves the point.
For MVP I'm planning to stick with learning development and then spreads to other areas.
I'm working on setting up a blog and improving speed and SEO for https://getyourganize.com/
I'm building my first side-project in a while: Freshreader.
I don't know about you, but I always end up with dozens of open tabs, thinking I'll eventually read them. Some people use Instapaper or Pocket to save those for later, but never actually read them. I know I did the same thing, and eventually I dreaded opening those apps because of the sheer amount of content I had saved there. Not fun.
Freshreader aims to be a fun place to read content from around the Web. Here's the twist: saved content disappears automatically after 7 days.
That's right: no pressure to read everything. Read what feels good, then let go of the rest. :)
The basic web app + bookmarklet is shipped, and I'm now working on an Android version.
Cheers! ✌️
ohhhh hoarders are NOT gonna like this! But it's a fresh idea indeed! The Zen of letting go…
I have been working on tweaking my website. It lets users create animations in minutes. I am refocusing it to a narrower audience - people who want to create memes. The site is https://toonclip.com Below is an example. Comments, suggestions welcome.
@leisenming just overall UI/UX? It's functional for now, but I think it can be modernised a tad, e.g. the [ Play 👍 🔗 Fork ] buttons
Just created a free online tool that lets you visualize the browser sizes your users use to visit your site, according to Google analytics: Visualise your browser sizes
Originally created it as a way to create a Polypane workspace (link but figured it would be useful on its own too :)
After about 2+ years of working on a Mac version, I'm finally getting started with Timemator for iOS. Super excited to get something to design and develop from scratch and also get my hand on SwiftUI!
Working on McPiper - macOS status bar app to monitor CI/CD pipeline builds for selected repos.
Aim to release it this month, but it depends how progress with learning Swift + SwiftUI goes.
MVP will only support Gitlab, but longer-term will add other platforms too.
It's a user research tool, to figure out what your users really think about the features of your product. I expect UX people and product managers to use it to help prioritise their backlogs.
Just me building at the moment, and it's completely free. Feedback very very welcome :)
I'm working on launching emailkick.com
Launched private beta 2 days back. started iterating based on the feedback that I've got.
If you are an AWS SES user and you want to make email templates, sign in for the beta. I'm giving out 2 month free access to the paid plan to all beta users.
Hello everyone!
Sumit here. In April I was toying around with my ideas and discussing a lot with others in the Makerlog Telegram chat and elsewhere.
Finally I got needed clarity and last two weeks I focused back on the original idea for Dwata, a feature-packed admin application:
- Backend framework/language agnostic
- SQL (MySQL/PgSQL) and API (Stripe, Mailchimp, etc.) data management, completely visual editors
- CMS is planned with easy integration to static generators
- Integrate existing backend logic for moderation functions like "Mark all as Shipped"
- Self-hosted
Cheers!
Hi! I just joined makerlog. I'm building https://stackselect.tech - it's a curated list of tech tools you might need for your next tech stack.
There's plenty of listings already, but more being added (and articles and resources) all the time.
The website looks great. I wanted to build such a collection of tools that you can self-host online but was too lazy to build the tool.
Did you build it all from scratch or did you use some other service?
A couple of days back I decided to start a daily newsletter to curate articles/youtube videos/podcasts related to marketing. Collecting a buffer of articles to send for the first week. Will probably launch this week or early next week.
Doing a monitoring tool for websites. Do you think there is some place on the market for my tool?
There are many such tools on the market. First I would try to identify a niche where you can focus and solve a specific problem for that niche. Instead of just a simple monitoring tool for any website, maybe a monitoring tool for affiliate marketers or bloggers. Tracking their links and raising alerts for 404s.
Focusing on a specific use case would be better to get customers early. Then you can add more features depending on what they ask.
There are few tools to monitor your sites like simpleanalytics, plausible.io and fathom. They are simple and privacy focused alternatives to Google Analytics.
A bit late to the party 😅 I'm planning on finishing the first draft of a big Chartbrew re-design this month. It will allow users to pull data from unlimited sources (APIs or DBs) and display the data in the same chart for comparisons. The big PR is here
Me?
Getting ready to launch www.1Do.Today Beta 2.0, with much improved UX/UI, usability and more features. Stay tuned. 😉 💪
It's like a twitter for todo's and motivate progress. An app to apply the single-tasking philosophy. Focus on what's important & visualize progress. Do 1 MIT (most important task) every day.
Combining the compound effect & the Seinfeld Method to keep you motivated and kick procrastination.
1Do Today is now live on producthunt. 🍾 🎉🎉 All feedback is much appreciated! More than you know
Continuing to build out the website for https://consultily.com by integrating better payment pages, calendars and much more.
Essentially trying to keep people on the site when they want to take action as a lot.
We went through a complete re-design so, we're building it out from here.
I'm working on repositioning Lowdown from a tool for Slack communities to teams. Just launched new marketing site :) https://getlowdown.com
Hire new content writer to boost up the content production. Refine the content pipeline. Link building for Constant Delights
I'm working on Products Box. It's a bookmark manager for chrome designed for makers that helps to organize all your projects.
In addition to bookmarks you can also trigger weebhook actions and create dashboard cards (to monitor important info) for every products.
If you want to join the beta, any feedback is appreciated 🙏
I've finished building FolioReady.com
If waiting for documents or forms from clients delays your progress then you know the problem.
FolioReady makes it easy for clients to see what you need, send you documents to review and emails reminders until you have everything you need.
Hoping to start my automated, wireless telescope project. Working on improving the ecosystem for sensors (making them easier to access and use) as well, with an eye toward an educational lie detector project. Lastly looking at building a flutter app that can control a VR experience on a Pico VR headset.
Hello !
I shipped Vim Training Course this week.
It started as a small project almost 9 months ago and through the journey I eventually ended up learning Elixir and video streaming techniques. Super excited that its on production now. Would love to get any feedback around the course. Happy learning !
I'm building an application & performance monitoring tool for specifically NextJS apps.
Would love to talk to anyone who is building with Next about it. Will trade beta access for user interviews :)
Hey, I have been working an app that allows you to share music with your friends regardless of the streaming service they own. The app supports Apple Music and Spotify for now. You can create groups with your friends and share music with them. We are going to be adding more features to Sterio soon. Would love to hear some feedback from you guys.
The app is available on the below stores
📌
As makers, Google Analytics is our defecto tool when it comes to tracking all our WIP & side projects making Google Analytics a big mess.
It has made tracking any new project a nightmare ☠️ for us.
To overcome this frustration we build a single page GA view with most relevant insights and top referrals for any project.
We are open to all kind of feedback good😇, bad 😈and ugly💩 Take a look, hope you’ll like it
https://shanc.app/
PS: We only pull project data and don't save anything except google key because data management is hectic and we are lazy. 😊
Just launched a Chrome / Firefox extension named Omni. Omni brings a new personalized way to search and navigate your open tabs, history and Tefter bookmarks. It does not share your data or show ads.
Please try it and let me know what you think https://www.producthunt.com/posts/omni-tabs-and-history-search-by-tefter
Hey everyone, I'm building a no-code tool called Pory for creating sites using Airtable. You can check it out here: https://pory.io
and if you're feeling extra kind then upvote it here as well: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/pory
What's next for us is creating integrations to other apps to enable marketing, analytics, payments etc.
Hi, I'm working on Ashtanga Yoga mobile app 🧘 - it's a simple guide to Ashtanga yoga practices and poses.
Making: page 1 >> https://frontendor.com page 2 >> https://frontendor.com/index.2.html
Complete collection of ready-to-use HTML blocks for buidling any kind of landing page without having to rely on page builders or buying more and more templates.
