How do you get your first users?

One of the most pressing issues us makers face when creating new things is finding those first 1,000 users.

What is your advice, what do you do? I'll share mine below as a reply.

In my case, I try to do the following:

  1. Build an audience on social media.
  2. Provide tons of value and support to my target audience. Doing good comes back 💚
  3. Hang out where my audience hangs out.

This is probably the correct way to approach audience.

Have some suggestions based on what we did for our app Blend

  1. Look for places to launch: Applied for Google Early access program and got selected there - this gave us a good number of logins and users
  2. Build in something into the product - users in our app can check out the games but only play with their own contacts. This helps us get users from users. Currently, we see every user on average invites 2.1 users
  3. Focus on one or two social media channels, post good content - we started with meme based content because that's what we felt our target users will connect to the most

In 2020 terms, that's a pretty good r0!

I'm trying to find communities where people talk about the problem or related things. Imagine you make a nutrition tracking app and you can find reddits, forums etc. where people ask things that your product / service solves. Then it's not even spam, but useful for people to reply.
