Can you help me with the name of my product?

Hey there, I'm making some nice progress on my little product, but I'm having a bit of a decision crisis about the name. Would love your opinion and thoughts!

Context: The product is designed to be a super easy and beautiful way to get a personal page onto the internet. It includes your profile, and integrates with other platforms like Revue (to capture emails), Twitter and Medium to show a feed of your content… and more to come.

The two options I'm considering (I happen to have both domains already)

  1. feed.so -- because it is your personal feed of content
  2. persona.to -- because it is your personal page

I have my own opinion and pros/cons, but I'm feeling uncertain. What do you think? Halp?

I have been through naming a product this recently so I feel your pain - it is not easy!

I'd really recommend going with something that has a .com available - if the product is successful you don't want to have to deal with someone else taking the .com and running with it.

@ryan_glass Thanks for the feedback! Getting a decent .com these days is near impossible though, unless I want to get overly inventive with the name or have 3+ words in the name.

What's the best balance here, do you think?

I see feed.so as content centric, while persona.to, user centric. The .to feels kinda off. I'm like "to" what? But feed looks pronounced than the .so (I guessed that's why I'm not asking "so" what?😂)

I'll will go with feed.so. simple, custom. Ex. shane.feed.so, Toheeb.feed.so

If your core value is around the personal feed, then feed.so works well. However, it might not make a lot of sense if many of the personal pages don't revolve around a personal feed of content - there might be people interested in building a very simple personal page with no feed of content to display.

I like the idea of focusing on the "personal" aspect of it, but I have mixed feelings about the .to

@snippyly That's exactly my feeling as well.

I'm hoping to get past the literal meaning of the word though. In the same way that Carrd does not offer literal cards, but an easy website builder (that may or may not use the card design concept). Do you think I'm maybe forcing it a bit too much? 😅

Hey everyone! I've decided to rename from Feed to Koa for a couple of reasons:

  1. It is a little more abstract of a name, giving me the freedom to create the brand rather than distracting the user with a literal name (people have found "Feed" a bit confusing)
  2. I can get a decent .com domain

My next question: What do you think is better?

  • usekoa.com
  • koahq.com

Thanks for your help! 🙏🏼

@sneub I like Koa and from those two I prefer usekoa.com but I think you can do better (sorry!)

If you haven't already check out: https://instantdomainsearch.com/#search=koa

I noticed there are a bunch of koa variation dot coms available such as koafeed.com, socialkoa.com etc

@sneub I remembered the JavaScript framework - KOA

From the two choices above, I'd choose usekoa. The prefix "use" makes "KOA" stand out. koahq might be seen as one word. For some reason, I'm seeing it as "koah" & "q".
