Weekly tips on acquiring users

Hey everyone,

I've started interviewing successful founders and makers about how they got their first users, and putting it into a short, concise, and no bullshit newsletter.

Next week I'm publishing the first issue. I'm keeping it short and useful -- no fluff, no extras, no bullshit. And it's also free.

I know that distribution and getting users is a big challenge for many people, including myself.

I'll try to channel the wisdom of other founders to you via my newsletter: subscribe here -> https://tractionos.substack.com

You just started your newsletter. How are you going to grow it? "talking to a different successful founder every week" - what kind of founders? Do you mind sharing with us @sneub

@fajarsiddiq Good question, especially for this topic newsletter 😃

Growing - here's my strategy so far:

  • I'm publishing on Substack, and will share screenshot snippets of quotes also on Twitter.
  • Tagging the founders, ideally they will like/reshare the content (most so far have already said they will, without me asking them), increasing visibility and reach
  • The Twitter cards will mention the Substack publication, and the publication will mention Twitter link -- ideally to drive up both.
  • Finally, trying to make the content as valuable and as actionable as possible, so that people actually find it really useful for their own projects. Reach means nothing if it's not valuable.

Who am I interviewing? I'm trying to mix up the profiles a little bit, but so far it's mainly SaaS founders -- trying to aim for products that have reached at least >1000 users (some have reached 40K+), but also not TOO big (otherwise it may not be actionable, eg. if the answer is "my marketing team…"). I also would like to get some other newsletters, communities, etc. Because those are also quite relevant.

Happy to share any more if you're interested :) It's still the beginning of the journey, so I'm sure this will all evolve as I learn. It's my first time starting and growing a newsletter.

@sneub I think there is plenty of people doing this. There is a lot of things you need to do and you're doing this the first time. I know your best skillset is marketing. Are you doing this alone?

@fajarsiddiq Sure! Let me come back in a few days, as I'm staggering the communications over a few days. Then I can show the full story, instead of just a snippet.

@fajarsiddiq So for the first week, here's a few metrics:

Twitter:

  • 888 impressions, 16 engagements (1.8% EPI)
  • 5 likes, 2 replies, 3 retweets

Substack

  • 1 new subscriber

A humble beginning, but only the first week 😇
