Obstacle is the way
✍🏻 Practice objectivity
- Objectify the situation: We are so much better at giving others advice but we might feel crippled when the same situation strikes us. So always take a situation and pretend it is not happening to you, pretend it is not important, it will be much easier to find a solution.
✍🏻 Alter your perspective
- Don't ignore your FEARS but explain it.
- George Clooney spent his first years in Hollywood getting rejected at auditions. He wanted producers and directors to like him but they didn’t and it hurt and he blamed the system for not seeing how good he was.
- Everything changed when he tried a new perspective. He realized that casting is an obstacle for producers too, they need the right somebody. Auditions were a chance to solve their problem and not his.
🎃 The difference between the right and the wrong perspective is everything.

🎄Steady your nerves
“When we aim high, pressure and stress obligingly come along for the ride. Stuff is going to happen that catches us off guard, threatens or scares us. Surprises (unpleasant ones, mostly) are almost guaranteed. The risk of being overwhelmed is always there. In these situations, talent is not the most sought-after characteristic. Grace and poise are because these two attributes precede the opportunity to deploy any other skill.”
🎄 Control your emotions
- When America was sending the first men into space, they trained astronauts in one skill more than any other: the art of NOT panicking. When people panic, they make mistakes.
- If an emotion can't change the situation you're dealing with, it is likely an unhelpful emotion.

the obstacle is the way: Recognize your power
- Story of Rubin "Hurricane" Carter, a top contender for the middleweight title who was wrongly accused of a triple homicide. He spent every second in jail studying his case and being better.
- There is no good and bad, everything is only perception. There is an event and there is a story which we tell ourselves about what it means.

The obstacle is the way: the discipline of perception
- Learn to see the problem as they are and not get carried away by the impulse.
- What matters more are not the problems rather how we react to them.
- What matters more are not the problems rather how we react to them.
The obstacle is the way - Introduction
- Most of us are paralyzed. Whatever our individual goals, most of us sit frozen before the many obstacles that lie ahead of us.
- “What holds you back?
The Physical? Size. Race. Distance. Disability. Money.
The Mental? Fear. Uncertainty. Inexperience. Prejudice.”
- We all have unique obstacles but all of them have similar invisible forces holding back - our attitude and approach.
- The obstacle is the indication to level up. Instead of giving up if you spend enough time with it, honing your skills you shall reach where you deserve to be. (It is easier said than done)
Perception: see the obstacle the way it is, neither good nor bad. This is going to help fight the obstacle as we remain calm and imperturbable.

▴ Learn the permanent way, associate the new word with familiar words. Also, It is quicker to learn new words which are somewhat related that learning totally random words.
▴ Words have a past, know the history of the word.
▴ They grow in clusters
▴ Check the prefix to guess ideas, eg: exodus "ex" means outwards in most cases.
▴ Try to know more than just the word

Atomic habits: Summary
• As one knows that earning one single coin a day cannot make you rich but accumulating daily will weigh you more towards the goals. Eventually, you will hit a tipping point and you will have what you always wanted.
Small improvements can often seem insignificant however when repeated enough can give you the results which you need.
• “Each of the people, teams and companies we have covered has faced different circumstances, but ultimately progressed in the same way: through a commitment to tiny, sustainable, unrelenting improvements.”
• Important
“Success is not a goal to reach or a finish line to cross. It is a system to improve, an endless process to refine. In Chapter 1, I said, “If you’re having trouble changing your habits, the problem isn’t you. The problem is your system. Bad habits repeat themselves again and again not because you don’t want to change, but because you have the wrong system for change.”
• “With the Four Laws of Behavior Change, you have a set of tools and strategies that you can use to build better systems and shape better habits. Sometimes a habit will be hard to remember and you’ll need to make it obvious. Other times you won’t feel like starting and you’ll need to make it attractive. In many cases, you may find that a habit will be too difficult and you’ll need to make it easy. And sometimes, you won’t feel like sticking with it and you’ll need to make it satisfying.”
• “This is a continuous process. There is no finish line. There is no permanent solution. Whenever you’re looking to improve, you can rotate through the Four Laws of Behavior Change until you find the next bottleneck. Make it obvious. Make it attractive. Make it easy. Make it satisfying. Round and round. Always looking for the next way to get 1% better.
• The secret to getting results that last is to never stop making improvements. It’s remarkable what you can build if you just don’t stop. It’s remarkable the business you can build if you don’t stop working. It’s remarkable the body you can build if you don’t stop training. It’s remarkable the knowledge you can build if you don’t stop learning. It’s remarkable the fortune you can build if you don’t stop saving. It’s remarkable the friendships you can build if you don’t stop caring. Small habits don’t add up. They compound.
🎁That’s the power of atomic habits. Tiny changes. Remarkable results.”

Atomic Habits Chapter 19/20: The Goldilocks Rule: How to Stay motivated in Life and Work
• The chapter starts with an inspiring example of a comedian Steven Martin who in the early days used to work in Disney land doing menial jobs and later on rose to fame as a comedian. He was committed to his habit of practising his craft for 18 years. 10 years spent learning, 4 years refining and 4 years as a wild success. How could he be so consistent with his habit for 18 years while most of us even struggle to Keep the Streak alive?
The scientist who research such questions found out that one way to maintain motivation and achieve peak levels of desire is to work on tasks that are "just the right level of difficulty".
• The greatest enemy to success is not failure rather it is boredom. Variable reward had proven to provide the maximum dopamine hit in quite a few tasks, a real life example would be slot machine.
• Anyone can work when they feel motivated but stepping up when it's annoying or painful or draining to do so, that's what makes the difference between professionals and amateurs. You will have to fall in love with boredom.
• There will be many situations against you and you will not FEEL like doing it but you would NEVER regret showing up and working on something THAT MATTERS TO YOU.

Atomic habit 17/20: How an accountability partner can change everything
• Basic concept
All the actions are repeated if it is rewarded and resisted if punished. The more IMMEDIATE the pain the less likely it gets repeated, so the best way to abandon the predicament of a bad habit is to immediately punish the behaviour.
• What to do?
By signing a habit contract with an accountability partner specifying what actions will you obey in detail and what all punishments can be enforced if one misses can be a great way to stick to a habit.
Note❗️ To be productive, the cost of procrastination must be greater than the cost of action.
• Why it works?
We are always trying to present our best selves to the world. We comb our hair and brush our teeth and dress carefully because we know these habits are likely to get a positive reaction. We want to get good grades and graduate from top schools to impress potential employers and mates and our friends and family. We care about the opinions of those around us because it helps if others like us. This is precisely why getting an accountability partner or signing a habit contract can work so well.
