How do you get media coverage for your app or project?

<-

Reaching out to press. haha

You just have to reach out to them, pitch them quickly (they have tip channels), and if they like you, you'll get coverage. Otherwise just wait for them to find you.

are their lists for people to reach out to, or websites to submit?

@bcye i do not know yet what you mean by media. media is a very big term.

if you mean newspapers and magazines, they usually have their contact pages. with online magazines like techcrunch and co it is better if you know journalists directly.

if you want to contact them via email, there are different lists and tools:

what you shouldn't forget is that many journalists are on the social media, especially on twitter. you can make a direct contact. the whole thing is not easy, of course. before you get started, think about it. it's like a small pitch.

Start out by reaching to small publications and blogs. Once you have a 3-10 bloggers that have mentioned you, you can go father up the chain and use that as cred to get a bigger publication to write about you. I haven't used this strategy, but have heard that it can work well. Requires some good planning and persistence, but I think it's way better than just blasting a message to a bunch of different publications.
