What are you building this month? [January 2021]
Folks, it's a new year. What's new with your shipping journey?
Drop down links & an explanation below.
Preparing for the launch on Producthunt in the next few days with ProdCamp (prodcamp.com) - a multi-channel customer feedback management platform. Preparing graphics and texts for the launch.
I am back on track 🎉. Initially I was going with a serverless architecture but realised early on it wasn't going to work for this project. I have migrated to a container-based approach which is working well.
Now I have the groundwork in place and passwordless-auth working, am able to start fleshing out the API endpoints which will be the backbone to Trivl.
I have been working on #fightie https://fightie.com/ for 5 months already! It's a workout tracker application that helps you track personal training data and provide some customized analytics for users to help them gain strength.
Until now, it's all like public-but-private release and I have shared it to my friends only. Need to start to focus on SEO and focus more on marketing! If there is anyone who has some experiences on this part, plz drop me a message :)
I'm building NotionMailer
A tool to write newsletter/emails in Notion.
(Integrates with Mailchimp & MailerLite)
I just decided to build a simple informational website over the weekend, https://www.ByeIndonesia.com.
I’ve been getting lots of messages and questions on Reddit regarding the process and it’s time consuming to response individually with people asking questions that’s been asked before.
Now, I just direct them to the site and keep the list of questions updated.
@strzibnyj yea, because currently, Indonesia doesn't allow dual citizenship so quite a number of people actually renounced myself included 😔
I will continue working on heyper.link
heyper.link is a tool to personalize the experience of your audience. Link your social profiles through one custom page.
I am creating an informational resource out of Learningin.tech . When I was building that project, I did a lot of research and most of it didn't make it to the actual site.
I think people can benefit from the resources to learn new technology, improve skills or just looking to make a career switch.
Started #nullitics this month - a zero-effort minimalist web analytics, with optional self-hosting (no dependencies) or using as a library (also no dependencies and 1 function API) or in the cloud (1€/month). Works well so far on my personal blog and a few other sites. Started working on the customer-facing part of it now. I expect it to be launched in February-March. P.S. I realize the niche is rather full, but I try to fit into the low-end segment, like amateur bloggers who pay for analytics twice as much as they pay for hosting, or indie hackers who don't want to maintain complex self-hosted analytics.
I'm building a privacy first web analytics platform which can be easily integrated into any website and provide targeted stats as specified by the developer.
I call it Page Insight Analytics https://pageinsight.app. I hope to get to MVP in 2 months time.
This month I'm building a Node/Vue boilerplate for SaaS applications which I aim to sell to others to kickstart their next great idea. Not only that, but it'll come in very useful when I want to build something if I already have a boilerplate for everything I need.
Started this year with a new side project 👩💻 (before getting back to the old ones 😁)
ThreadStart.io - a Twitter thread builder
Had the idea for a long time. Finally, decided to start it after a year of thinking about it. But I'm trying a new approach of building it. I split it into 3 phases with a clear goal.
- phase 1: 1 day time to get 1 subscriber
- phase 2: 1 week time to get 1 user
- phase 3: 1 month to get 1 customer
The idea is to practice shipping & narrowing the focus. As well as building it in the open. So far it works quite well. I'm almost done with phase 2. Let's see if I achieve my goal to get to phase 3.
@sughanthans1 Sure! It's Laravel for the backend with Livewire & Alpine for the interactions. Styling is Tailwind (incl. Tailwind UI). It's hosted on a 5$ Digitalocean droplet (let's see how long that goes well, haha 😄)
It's not the most "frontendy" stack but it's the one I know best, which helps me get things done as fast as possible.
@bcye Good question. Short answer: right now, probably nothing.
Long answer: I saw how well threads work for a lot of bigger names, but I found it difficult to even come up with things to write about. Then there's making the information concise. Structuring it. Visualizing it.
These are all problems I want to tackle with ThreadStart. It's going to suggest you ideas if you are out of them. Help you condense content. Give it great structure. Analyze its performane once published. And I aim to make this as fast & automatic as possible.
The current version is just the core that is necessary for all these features that build on it. But I wanted to release it and make it usable as fast as possible.
It's not a radical revolution right now. But thinking back in a few weeks & months, I want it to be just that.
Working on snazzycard.com - cards make easy
Got through the holiday card rush and am now fixing bugs and the next big feature which will be supporting invitations and announcements
Started the year off with a brand new free project for creators/makers.
libby.gg - Branded profiles for creators.
Been wanting to create this for a while. It's simple, when it launches, you'll be able to edit your profiles and they will look something like this (with option to attach your Twitter posts to the Posts tab!) It's currently open-source (orangopus/libby) but we have things on our to-do list:
- Dashboard editor
- Profile generation
- Fix authentication bug
We hope to get the release out sometime in February / Early March 2021.
@nblackburn Thanks a bunch. Release shouldn't be too far away. Having troubles with NextAuth session bugs. However, I'll try to get release out Feb or March this year.
@bcye Hey no problem. That's what we at Orangopus is all about. We make 100% free software for creators and makers. We have more repositories on our GitHub org.
One project which we really enjoy is orangopus/dynamix and the ability to make quick portfolios and websites with a simple config.json file. It's also built in NextJS. It's a sandbox too so it has features like a Stream Deck like demo and a Scene Switcher webpage for use with OBS.
I’m making web3forms.com which already has 20+ competitors
But I still thought there is a space.
This month will be mostly full of freelancing projects:
- React consulting for a local software development company (porting a legacy jQuery/Kendo app to a modern React tech stack)
- Work on cantara.js.org, which will be funded with a monthly budget from the said company!
- Starting a big project with one of the most influential, local car retailers (not sure yet if I'll get that project, but the signs look good)
If those projects succeed, I'll have a lot of time to concentrate on my own ventures again.
Oh yea before I forget it, what I'd also like to do this month, but I'm not sure if there will be time for that, is open-sourcing and refining Jamify, which is a CLI tool to convert any website to a Next.js/Gatsby.js site. I also need to stay realistic about my goals, so that's priority two for now.
Hey Folks,
Started working on "easyrelease"! A feature toggle service which helps us to release/deploy stress free. It is still work in progress (not yet build landing page working on app's UI and backend), It will have A/B testing and event tracking kinda features and many more. I am gonna start building in public.
I am working on redesigning my personal website(https://manishsaraan.com). Currently, it's just one page with little info about me. I want to improve it by adding info about my work, projects, open-source contributions, blog, and a hobbies page. Apart from this, I will resume work on my old project(https://chatengine.app) which is staled from the last couple of months, and launch it.
Started a small free service called #map2img
Easily convert your location/place/address/map to a static image.
Including maps, for example to show where your business is located at, can be a bit of a hustle. It's also pretty slow for your users to load those maps. A static image is a great alternative. Generating those images can again, be a bit cumbersome, especially as a non-techie.
Thus, I created a little free service to quickly generate those images, it's still WIP, but you can have a look at the current site here: https://map2img.com
Do you guys wonder how successful indiehackers / founders came across their idea?
I’m trying to collect a database of how successful founders found their idea. I’m planning to ask 3 questions to each founder. Here are the 3 questions.
- How did they come across the idea?
- How did they validate the idea?
- How did they acquire the initial customers?
Would any of you find this useful?
@sughanthans1 there is a similar startup I guess and it's really great https://www.failory.com
Hey! I'm building a kinda social network with a moderation (the idea is stolen) for the local (russian-speaking) musician market. Posts, battled, and probably gear sharing. Not sure if it will have any success but me dream is to ship a complete project 🧠
@TimofeyLavnik Интересно, желаю удачи! Обязательно присоединюсь, когда откроетесь.
@TimofeyLavnik I would love to get updates on this. I am planning on building a community myself in the near future :)
Hi! Excited to join this community.
I have been building RankUp.ai for the last couple of months. RankUp is a data-drive career coach that helps professionals find a meaningful career. It uses AI to discover career path scenarios, role models, and benchmark professionals to understand their strengths and weaknesses.
We are currently in a close Beta and the goal is to have an open Beta soon. Love to hear your thoughts.
Starting this year with my very first SaaS!
https://golifelog.com
Lifelog is a platform to write everyday towards your goals. Having wrote daily for 2 years straight, I’m a big believer in the power of writing to think, plan, imagine and realising your goals.
I spent 3 mths on this… coding the functionality bit by bit, realising it can actually work. Then building the writing UI from 0. I’d not worked this hard on a software product before, but pleased with how much fun I had learning new frameworks as I go, how it turned out. For those interested, my tech stack is Nuxt.js/Vue.js + Bulma on frontend, and a headless CMS/API builder called Strapi (based on Node.js) on backend, all hosted on Heroku.
I'm working on a nutrition app that'll recommend you healthy whole plant-based meals. For any meal, you'll receive a list of ingredients that can be translated into a grocery list, and once you make the meal it'll increase your profile stats based on the positive effects on your health and the environment.
https://meetlog.io -> a tool for organizing meetings inputs/outputs.
The focus this month is:
- finalize the work on the frontend
- start developing the api/backend
- decide on a payment provider
A bit late to the discussion, but my side-project I'm currently working on is called Coolify.
I built https://tabwave.vercel.app this month. It's a mindful productive app to replace your browser's default new tab. I also launched it on Product Hunt. Achievement unlocked 🚀

Right now, I'm working on #useMakerNotes.
I'm helping makers like myself:
- learn enough about one thing for their startup
- putting the knowledge to good use
Every 2 weeks @ Use Maker Notes
Hello, I'm new here but I'm currently developing an ecommerce marketplace: https://kopa2kopa.com.ng
