Lifelog

Write 100 words a day, every day, towards your goals.

Day 300 - 300 https://golifelog.com/posts/300-1635298759499

My 300th post here on Lifelog. Had it been 300+ days already since I launched Lifelog? It felt like forever… yet, gone by in a breeze. Indeed, the days are long but the years are short.

Over the 300 days, I made 7 goals here:

• Monthly goals
• $5k MRR
• 1% compounding
• Biohacking sleep
• Decoding coding
• Steal back curiosity
• #100daysofmarketing

How did I fare?

Day 299 - A high-signal metric for identity growth https://golifelog.com/posts/a-high-signal-metric-for-identity-growth-1635227486095

How I know I’ve successfully incorporated something into my identity – I no longer have hang-ups about doing the work.

That’s by far, the best measurable metric I came to when it comes to identity shifts.

It happened with coding, and now it happened with marketing.

Next up: Time to start shifting my identity to a “Wealthy Entrepreneur” and “Opportunistic Trickster”.

Day 298 - [Feedback wanted] Lifelog's pitch page https://golifelog.com/posts/feedback-wanted-lifelogs-pitch-page-1635131320850

I’m writing out a “Learn more” page for Lifelog. It’s kind of like a pitch deck, but in one web page. The aim is to share in detail Lifelog’s unique proposition, and increase conversion.

I want to build this in public, especially with the Lifelog community here. So guys, would love some feedback on the first iteration of the copy below.

Does it resonate with you?
Is that an accurate depiction of your writing experience here?
What works, what doesn’t work so well?

Day 297 - I was never an entrepreneur https://golifelog.com/posts/i-was-never-an-entrepreneur-1635044311699

Here’s the poignant realisation: I was never one before, even if I was self-employed, had a company registration, and called myself an entrepreneur. I was more like a self-employer freelancer, a sole proprietor.

Because there’s so much behind being an entrepreneur that I’d never touched or wanted to touch.

Capital gains and allocation.

Investing as a company to scale profits beyond a solo bootstrapper will be my next big step as an entrepreneur

Day 296 - I'm a marketer now https://golifelog.com/posts/im-a-marketer-now-1634957330129

I started #100daysofmarketing to grow Lifelog, but deep down I knew that it was more about pivoting myself and my identity, from a technical founder to a marketer.

Today, after 50 days of hardcore marketing, I can finally say I had done it.

I AM A MARKETER.

Truth is, nothing special happened today. I started to code but wanted to do marketing instead. I simply wanted to do it because I was having fun. Yes, I am having fun doing marketing! Finally! That’s when I knew I had crossed a threshold in identity.

I might not have achieved anything tangible yet in terms of my MRR targets, but dang, does this feel good!

A personal win, at the least. That long awaited pivot.

Day 294 - Nbew keyboatrd, who dis? https://golifelog.com/posts/nbew-keyboatrd-who-dis-1634799248475

A rare tech review about the Keychron K7 mechanical keyboard:

Overall, I give this a 9 out of 10. It cost 3 times more than a conventional keyboard, but well worth the price! I bought a bunch of equipment for my work desk recently, but none of them excited me as much as my Keychron K7. In fact, few gave this much pleasure using it. The last time I remembered getting this much joy and pleasure from a tool was the iPhone 4. So this sits up there with the giants of design.

Day 293 - Day 50 https://golifelog.com/posts/day-50-100daysofmarketing-1634709726122

Marketing channels smack-down:
Twitter was best so far, Quora has potential.

Lessons learned:
1/ Twitter - that 1 repeatable distribution channel?
Most promising award for one repeatable distribution channel goes to Twitter. But it had yet to convert. It’s also a hamster wheel of transient content, so amongst the different channels, keeping up is hardest.

2/ 80% consistency, 20% chance
Consistent content should still be continued, but it shouldn’t be the only trick. I need to be better at leveraging chance, spotting random opportunities

3/ One true SaaS?
There’s a gnawing discomfort that perhaps Lifelog isn’t the one true SaaS that would bring me to the $5k MRR goal.

What’s next?
⛔️ Stop doing:
• Daily blogging on LifeBlog
• Finish up on Facebook, Medium, dev blogs

💪 Keep doing:
• Twitter but reset approach
• Look for Medium publications to post in
• Keep up with Quora answers, especially in Spaces

⚙️ Switch gears to:
Landing page copy and SEO
• Update my website copy to better sell the transformational benefits
• Add a free trial with credit card details
• Fix SEO for blog, roadmap etc

Social media, marketing channels
• Twitter reset again - tweet more about building in public, writing for professional growth.
• Reddit, like /r/IndieWebDev, /r/SideProject, /r/IMadeThis, /r/BetaTesting. Use monthly self promotion threads in /r/WebDev and /r/startups.
• LinkedIn for distributing to professionals on why writing benefits their career.
• Indie Hackers, Telegram / Slack groups for ad-hoc sharing
• Cold sales - talking to writers on Twitter, but not selling anything to them

Development
• Engineering-as-marketing - some ideas I have:
– An atomic essay image generator for Lifeloggers and community? Premium features if you sign up.
– Word count single feature web app for lead generation?
– Writing prompts generator web app/Telegram bot/Chrome extension?
